Weird n' Wild Creatures Wiki

If there were such a thing as a scrawny dinosaur, this creature was it. Dromaeosaurus stood about as tall as a big dog but was as rabidly fierce as T-rex. With a high level of intelligence and endurance, these dinos hunted together in packs; they outsmarted bigger dinos and wore them down in long, tiring chases. These dinos also had a special skill: They were expert climbers.

Big Toenail: Like all raptors, dromaeosaurus had a long, curved claw on the second toe of each foot. This was the predator's primary weapon-it leapt through the air and delivered a slashing kick to victims. One shot was often lethal.

Uncommon Sense: Dromaeosaurus was among the most highly advanced dinosaurs, with well-developed senses of smell, vision and hearing. Plus, it climbed trees to attack from above. Using all these tools, this dinosaur never had a problem detecting and tracking down prey.

Pack of Dinos[]

Dromaeosaurus feasted on dinos many times its size.

Dromaeosaurus was a dog-sized dino, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a beast to fear. The reptile's small size was actually a benefit. First, it was speedy. Dromaeosaurus was light, so its long legs could carry it at great speeds while chasing after prey. Plus, its small size meant that the dino didn't have to eat hundreds of pounds of meat each day like bigger predators. These dinos hunted in groups so they could tire victims out in a long chase and take down animals big enough to feed the pack over several days.

Munchies: Unlike big predators like T-rex, dromaeosaurus didn't use its teeth for killing-its teeth were serrated, which means they were better for chewing than stabbing. The dino's sharp claws did the killing.

Follow the Leader: Dromaeosaurus was the first raptor discovered by scientists. Experts were stunned at finding this new type of dinosaur in 1914, but later found other, similar dinosaurs that were obviously in the same family, such as velociraptor and Utahraptor.

Timeline[]
