Its huge jaws, razor-sharp teeth, enormous strength and monster size make the great white shark the most feared killer in the ocean. Always on the move, it can taste a trace of blood from over a half-mile away.

Super Senses: The great white shark's extremely keen senses enable it to hunt down its victims with deadly precision.

Speed Shark: The biggest of all the hunting sharks, the great white is also among the fastest of all the fish in the sea. It reaches a top speed of 25 miles per hour.

Feasting on Fat[]

From underwater, surfers look like just another meal.

Great whites rarely eat humans. These sharks often take one bite and move on. This may be because humans don't have the thick layer of tasty fat that covers their favorite prey, such as seals. Still, just one bite can tear a human in two pieces, and at least 77 of the more than 100 great white attacks on people in the past 80 years have been fatal. A surfer (left) can look like a turtle or seal to a hungry shark.

Deadly Smile: The shark's 50 triangular teeth are like the jagged blades of a saw, cutting through flesh and bone with ease. Dulled, old teeth are replaced with razor-sharp teeth that grow up from beneath the old ones.

Killer Body: The great white's body is perfectly streamlined, designed for speeding through the water.

Big Gulp[]

  1. When the great white approaches its prey, it lifts its snout at an angle from its body.
  2. Its mouth opens wide and its jaw shifts forward, exposing its gums. When it attacks, it rolls its eyes back to protect them from injury.
  3. Finally, the shark pulls back its upper jaw and lowers its snout so that both jaws close. It shakes its head to tear off a piece, using its great body weight for leverage.

Trading Card[]

Trivia[]

  • The Great White Shark has a common trading card and a Diamond Power card.
  • The scientific name is misspelled as charcharodon, when it should be carcharodon.

    • The great white is mentioned on the Mako Shark's knowledge card for steering clear of dolphins, while makos won't; the Blue Shark's knowledge card, on the other hand, mentions it as more fierce than the blue shark.

    • It's mentioned as a predator for the Marlin on its knowledge card.
