Hideous beasts from the far north of Europe, trolls were one of the most-feared monsters in Scandinavian mythology. These creatures lived in isolated caves or under mountains, but loved nothing more than to wreak havoc on humans. Trolls used magic to play deadly tricks on people, raided villages and stole human babies in the night to use as slaves.
Almost Human: Trolls were usually huge, hairy beasts that looked human-like, but were horribly ugly, with big noses and rotten teeth. Their rough skin was so tough that only the sharpest of weapons could cut through it.
Brute Squad: In many legends, these hideous monsters loved the taste of human flesh. Trolls usually lived in caves, but often raided villages at night to kill and eat as many people as it took to fill their large stomachs.
Troll Tales[]

People once believed that giant trolls built castles in Europe.
Through the ages, legends have told stories about several different kinds of trolls. Apart from the typical hairy giant troll, there were bridge trolls. These creatures were half the size of a human, and made people pay to cross the bridges they lived under. In Iceland and Norway, stories told of monstrous trolls in the mountains that had two or more heads. The more heads one of these beasts had, the more powerful it was in both strength and magic.
Magic Man: Many trolls learned to use magic to help them lure victims into traps. Spells would make trolls look like beautiful women that men couldn't resist, and some trolls put curses on objects, then sold them to unwary villagers.
Baby Trade[]
In the old days, female trolls were said to sneak into homes at night and kidnap human children. Trolls thought that their own babies were hideously ugly, so they traded the babies they stole with their own ugly offspring. The stolen babies were raised by the trolls as slaves.
